The US has developed a comprehensive training manual for health workers on gays, homosexuals LGBTs and other Gender Sexual Minorities (GSM) in Kenya.
The Kenya specific manual is funded by USAID and the US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and developed by the Washington based Health Policy Plus Palladium.
Published in April, the work involved among others PEPFAR/Kenya, Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya (GALCK), UHAI-EASHRI, LVCT Health, KELIN, and the Kenyan Human Rights Commission (KHRC).
The two 120 and 60 – paged documents however try to disabuse the view that in Kenya there are no laws that protect gender and sexual minorities.
The manual assures health workers that the Kenyan constitution and key health and HIV policies fully protect the rights of gender and sexual minorities.
“These policies include Article 27 of the constitution on equality and non-discrimination and Article 43 on the right to the highest attainable standards of health.”
